What’s Blocking You?

It’s soooo easy to complain!

Pick an area— any area. Work. School. Family. Home. Relationships. Many of us could easily come up with a list of grievances a mile long.

I really struggled with this a few years back so when I saw someone doing a ‘100 days of gratitude challenge’ on Twitter, it looked like a good idea—I had no idea how that choice would later shape my life.

Here in the ‘One Grateful Me’ community we are learning how to be content one day at a time. Part of this journey includes a focus on the positive (thanking God daily for His work in, through and for us); the other part focuses on discovering what blocks the pathway to our contentment.

When unexpected events crush our hopes or when we are dissatisfied with the circumstances in our day-to-day lives, discontentment is birthed and spurred on by thought patterns like:

“That’s not fair.”

“Why them and not me?”

“I can do better than that.”

“God is not meeting my needs. ”

“God owes me/ They owe me!”

“I trusted God and He let me down”.

In the ‘One Grateful Me’ community we are intentional about breaking down the mindsets, attitudes and behaviors that lead to discontentment. Each month we will focus on one specific barrier and discuss ways to overcome it. Be on the look out for a post on our April barrier: Complaining.

  1. Hey Mia! I love the layout of your new website. I am so encouraged by your scopes so I know I will be encouraged by your blog too! It is definitely “soooo easy to complain.” I am still working on not complaining as much and having a spirit of gratitude. There are many things that God has given me, and I don’t want to forget about that. Thank you for sharing on the topic of complaining. Can’t wait to read more on the topic! 🙂

    1. Thank you Monica! I think it is a daily struggle for most of us to focus on what we have to be grateful for. I love that you focus on that in your ‘6 grateful things list’!

  2. Excellent idea to list out those thought patterns that reveal discontentment! As we become aware of unhealthy thoughts we have a better chance at not succumbing to them.
